Christmas Lunch - December 8

Article from page 18 of Dickon Independent issue 47

A bitterly cold day but the Oaks at Mustow Green was lovely and warm and the food excellent and plentiful. Pat did her usual brilliant catering, and the rest of us supplied the extras. About forty of us enjoyed soup or pate, a selection of roast meats, with roast potatoes, roast parsnips, stuffing, sauces, and salad, followed by a choice of Christmas pudding, trifle, mince pies or cheese and biscuits, with plenty for seconds or thirds! There was also a vegetarian main course created by Pat.

The tables were nicely decorated, and Jane and June’s idea of allocating space to everyone as they bought tickets, ensured that people sat next to their friends and guests, even if they arrived at the last minute.

The raffle offered some tempting prizes, including two bottles of Kingmaker beer, and another of Pat’s magnificent Christmas puddings.

Pat received a copy of Geoffrey Richardson’s The Hollow Crowns and a bottle of mead as a thank you for her efforts, while Jane and June shared another bottle of mead for setting up the room.
