Bewdley Connection

Geoffrey Wheeler sent me an interesting titbit from Country Life May 30 2012. An email from Judith Hodgkinson recalled a story told to her and her father by the late Worcestershire historian Bill Gwilliam in May 1991. When speaking in Bewdley a few years previously, he mentioned hearing that in a time of crisis, a local man had rowed Edward IV across the River Severn, for which he had been rewarded with tax exemption. A man in the audience put up his hand to confirm the story as he was a descendant of that man!

We thought Edward had given Bewdley its charter because archers from the town fought for him at Tewkesbury and helped him win the battle, but this is a wonderful piece of news.
